UAP Assistant General Manager Operations Paul Muhane hands over a dummy cheque for Sh10 million donation to Aggrey Kankuda of Rotary Uganda for the Kampala Cancer Run which will be held this Sunday from the Kololo Independence Grounds.
The Kampala Cancer Run has received a major boost ahead of the event this Sunday with UAP Insurance donating 10 million shillings to Rotary in Uganda who are organisers.
The leading insurance company handed over a dummy cheque this morning to Aggrey Kankunda, of Rotary Uganda together with other partners of the Aids Support Organization(TAS0) at the Insurance head-office at Nakawa Business Park.
UAP has partnered with TASO to offer free HIV testing and basic medical check-ups to participants during the event as part of its “UAP Wellness Program”.
The run will be held at Kololo airstrip with the chief guest runner being the Former President of Tanzania Ali Hassan Mwinyi.
The charity run, which is in its third year running, has attracted a wide range of sponsors participants and contributors towards the completion of a specialized Cancer Ward at Nsambya Hospital, as cancer becomes one of the biggest health concerns in Uganda today.
The run targets to raise funds towards the completion of the Rotary Centenary Cancer Ward at St Raphael of St Francis Hospital Nsambya. The ward will help to supplement the current limited facilities in the country in the prevention and treatment of cancers.
The planned 36-bed capacity ward is estimated to cost Shs1.3 billion and is currently in it’s final stages.
“We are glad to be part of a cause that will ensure more Ugandans are screened for early detection of cancer and the provision of better medical care for cancer patients,” said UAP Assistant General Manager Operations Paul Muhame.
