Uganda Sports Press Association has this morning over-whelmingly voted long and middle distance athlete Timothy Toroitich, the Nile Special Uganda Sports Press Association Personality of the Month of January in their first monthly meeting held at Imperial Royale Hotel today.

Toroitich won the 69th Cross Internacional Zornotza in Amorebieta, Spain edging his running mate Moses Kipsiro.

Despite the tantalisingly close climax to the 10.5km race, Toroitich was still credited with a one-second victory ahead of Kipsiro in 32:01 with two-time European cross-country champion Alemayehu Bezabeh finishing third on home soil in 32:17.

Toroitich became just the second Ugandan winner in Amorebieta after Boniface Kiprop won this race as a teenager some 11 years ago. The scribes also commend national table tennis player Amina Lukaya, for winning the national women’s table tennis ranking championships last month.

National golfer Ronald Otile, was also commended for winning the national golfer qualifiers and also qualifying for the national golf team.
