A stiff battle is expected as the motocross season opener rolls off at the Busiika Motorsport Arena on Sunday.
All eyes will be on Fortune Ssentamu, Alestair Blick and and Ali Omar who have upgraded from the 65-85cc and from the 85-125cc competition classes respectively.
Ssentamu and Blick will unleash their new machines, a KTM 85cc 2015 model bike and a Yamaha 125 2015 model bike respectively as they seek for a successful start to the new season.
Ssentamu will extend his battle for the national title with Ben Nsumba and Joshua Mwangala in the 85cc category alongside, Wazil Omar, John Schierer, Phillip Luke, Isaya Byaruhanga, Yasin Kasirye and the Orland brothers (Stav and Aviv) in what promises to be an interesting race. Alestair Blick and Ali Omar will also take on Ahmed Tamale for the FIM Central Africa Champioship in the MX2 race.
Tamale who will ride a superior 250cc bike told New Vision that he had trained well and is ready to face anyone. “I know these young boys (Alestair and Omar) are too daring but am confi dent; I will take them on,” Tamale stated.
Wilson Jojo is also expected to make a debut in the MX1 category alongside regular contestants Arthur Blick and Talha Kiggundu among others. The season opening event on Sunday will for the first time in Ugandan history have a competition for buggy riders.
Leila Mayanja, the event’s director says that buggy riding is another way of improving motorsport skills among riders and drivers. “We want to promote buggy riding in Uganda,” Mayanja stated.
The event is sponsored by Vision Group, Vivo Energy, Safe Solution and IAA Resolution Health.
