Over 25 crews are gearing up for the fifth round of African Rally Championship (ARC) that starts on Friday 31st July in Nyamata, Rwanda.
The prestigious Mountain Gorilla Rally will host three ARC contenders, including current leader Jaspreet Chatthe from Kenya, Zambia’s Jassy Singh and Abdu Sempembwa from Uganda.
Chatthe holds a 14 points lead over Zambia’s Singh.
Uganda’s Sempembwa will be aiming for his first points this year.
Besides the ARC contenders, crews across the region will be in the fray for this year’s title.
Uganda, Burundi and Tanzania will all be represented this weekend in Rwanda.
The Mountain Gorilla Rally has registered five different winners in the past five years.
It remains to be seen whether a new winner will be unveiled or the 2013 winner Davite Giancarlo can make it to two titles in five years.
Unlike before, the event will run on two days with most of the routes modified. The rally will be flagged off at Umubano Hotel.
Crews will head to Nyamata for two super special stages, each repeated twice. Day two will have crews cover four stages of Ndera-Rugenze(19.50km), Gahengeru- Mwurire(28.80km), Nyagasambu-Musha(15.30km), and Mwurire-Gahengeri (29.00km) all repeated twice totaling up to a distance of 185.2km.
