Ndhiwa Member of Parliament Agostinho Neto (pictured) will lead at least 200 law makers at this year’s Standard Chartered Marathon slated for October 26 in Nairobi. Neto who also doubles up as the Bunge Sports Club vice-chairman represented the National Assembly Speaker as the race organisers visited the august House for registration of the legislators.
The 12th edition of the race targets participation of 25,000 runners from 60 different countries and the theme is ‘’Wild for a Reason’’. Race organiser Peter Gitau who led the delegation to meet the Parliamentarians was upbeat about the forthcoming event and said preparations were almost complete.
“We are happy to have grown in strength since 2003 and we are hoping to grow further with this initiative. Partnership from sponsors and participants will go a long way in advancing the image of the event,’’ said Gitau who is also the Chief Information Officer for Standard Chartered Bank.
Neto said: “A big team of over 200 members of parliament will participate for this noble cause and we are going to support it all the way. We are going to use this event as preparation for the East Africa Parliamentary Games in Arusha next month.’’
He added: “We will give it our all and promise to show up in full force given the benefits that will go back to the needy.” Gitau hailed Parliamentary team for showing leadership and solidarity in the exercise. “I would like to thank the MPs for their continued participation and I am optimistic that Team Bunge will have a bigger representation at this year’s event.’’
