The Tanzania’s prestigious Oryx energies rally that attracts drivers across East Africa will ceremoniously be flagged of today by the former Tanzanian president Ali Hassan Winyi.

The three day event has not only attracted African rally championship contenders, but also several drivers from East Africa.

From Uganda, three drivers will feature in the weekend rally. Duncan Mubiru is making his second appearance in the Oryx rally.

Mechanical trouble failed him in last year’s competition. However, his finish position will not reflect to his NRC position.

And according to his navigator, George Semakula; the Azania crew is up for the challenge. “Earlier we had a problem with mapping which had failed but eventually became successful and the car is fine.

“I can only say we are going to tightly compete and participate, i just pray the car behaves,” he said.

Mubiru will be flagged off ninth behind ARC contender Muna Singh Jnr. Adam Rauf Essa is another driver carrying the Ugandan flag.

He will be making his second attempt in Tanzania after Morogoro rally as well as experiencing his first biggest rally event of his rally career.

Fresh from a training period with Finish driver Tapio Laukennen, Essa will be keeping his expectations high. Yasin Nasser will be debuting in the Tanzanian rally with little known about his rally experience and capabilities.
