Multiple world distance running champion Lornah Kiplagat will this weekend strike another Kenyan first by launching her sportswear line, Africa’s first exclusively tailored sportswear.

The Lornah brand was launched for the European market last October on the side-lines of the Amsterdam Marathon, with tomorrow’s Nairobi launch marking the apparel’s entry into the African market. The launch, which will be presided over by First Lady Margaret Kenyatta and Kiplagat, a former IAAF world cross country and Half Marathon champion, will be held at the Galleria Shopping Mall, Nairobi from 8am.

To celebrate the launch of the Lornah brand, a 2km fun run has been organised to also act as a warm-up for the March 8 second edition of the First Lady Half Marathon. The Lornah apparel is highlighted by an African design with words of the Kenyan national anthem inscribed in fine print, available in various colours and shades. “Our idea is not to create just another brand. We want to create a community of people who love a healthy life style and who are looking for the latest fitness trends, the latest super foods and training advise,” said Kiplagat who last year inaugurated the first tartan track outside Nairobi at her High Altitude Training Centre in Iten.
