Shaz Esmail is back this season, this time aiming for a podium finish in the first round of the Blue Triangle Autocross One scheduled for February 17 at the East African Portland Cement Quarry in Athi River.
Esmail, who only raced in a few events last season due to business commitments, anticipates a great race this weekend.
Esmail, who sponsored trophies for the entire Autocross series last season as well as overall winners in their categories at the Kenya Motor Sports Federation 2012 Annual Awards through his company Shazco, hopes to dust off the cobwebs in an event that promises spectators some superb displays.
The Sunday’s Autocross is expected to be another great event being organised by the Rift Valley Motor & Sports Club and starting the season in fashion.
Others expected in action are Bobby Sehmi, Samir Khan, under 24 champions Charles Mugo and Eugene Maina who was voted the most improved Autocross driver during the KMSF Annual Awards.
Rally cars are also expected to participate in the event, so it will be a great rivalry against drivers in buggies.
Defending champion Kyle Lucas is the notable absentee.
Lucas, who plans to join rallying, is currently rebuilding his new Subaru Impreza.
With Lucas away, Sehmiand Khan will be pushing for the championship both in PAC tuned buggies.
“Yes on for the Athi autocross. I’m on full steam and hoping to pull surprises,” said Khan who was yesterday spotted at Jamhuri practice sessions.
