Andrew Desh Kananura finished impressively in the fifth round of African Rally championship in Rwanda last weekend.

Doing his first international rally, on a terrain more tricky and challenging than in Uganda, Kananura drove brilliantly to keep himself in the race to the end.

With Moses Matovu calling the pace notes, Kananura finished fourth on day one with two minutes and four seconds behind day one leader Valery Bukera.

Desh finished fifth overall but decries mechanical trouble in the ultimate stage.

“We were in third position till we broke rear left hub in the last two stages, and eventually got a puncture.

“We limped through the two last stages hence dropping down to fifth,” says Kananura.

The Rwanda air sponsored team had a prior target of acquiring experience from the Rwanda event.

“We went to learn, and lessons were learnt, this being my sixth rally in my life, am gobsmacked and cant wait for Pearl rally,” he asserted.

The Subaru driver now sets his sights on the Pearl Rally at the end of this month.
