Over 400 athletes will hit the car-free roads of Bagamoyo in the second edition of the Bagamoyo Historical Marathon with the motto ‘Prevent Non Communicable Diseases’ which takes place today in the historical town of Bagamoyo.
According to the race coordinator, Dominic Mosha, all is set for the race which comprises 21-kilometre race (Half Marathon), 10-kilometre race and 5-kilometre Fun run race which is organised by 4Beli Company Limited.
Mosha said the race which will start at Mbarouk Primary School around 6:30 am will be graced by the Bagamoyo Member of Parliament, and Minister of Education and Vocational Training, Shukuru Kawamba.
The guest of honour, Kawambwa, apart from flagging off the race, is also expected to be among the people who will take part in the 5-kilometre Fun Run, which involves people of all age structure.
According to the organizers, the race which will begin on 6:30 am where the half marathon runners will commence their battle while the 10-kilometre race will take off 15 minutes later and the popular 5-kilometre race will hit the road at 7 O’clock am.
The race established last year views at promoting athletics in the country as well as tourism in the historical town, which is among the seventh World heritage sites.
Apart from that, the event encourages people to cultivate a habit of participating in doing exercise by taking part in various categories of the event.
