Former New York Marathon champion Geoffrey Mutai and Cherangany Member of Parliament Wesley Korir are some of the elite athletes who have confirmed participation in the annual Chemususu Half Marathon in Eldama Ravine on September 17.

The Half Marathon to start at the Chemususu Dam then follow a few sections of last year’s route will see the first five finishers take home a total of Sh280,000 with the winner pocketing Sh150,000 and runners up Sh60,000.

The third, fourth and fifth finishers would take home Sh35,000, Sh20,000 and Sh15,000 respectively in both the men and women categories.

Other races include 10km, 7km for the secondary school students and 5km for the corporates.

The first and second placed finishers in the 10km and 7km would take home Sh Sh50,000 and Sh30,000 and Sh12,000 and Sh10,000.

Coordinator Robert Cheruiyot said they expect at least 2000 runners with 600 taking part in the main event, 400 in the 10km and 500 in the 7km and 5km races.

The race has so far attracted a total sponsorship of Sh 5million with Rift Valley Water Services Board providing Sh1milllion, Sportpesa Sh1.5 million, Gulf Energy Limited Sh250,000, KenGen Sh250,000 and New KCC Limited Sh250,000, among other sponsors.
