Kenya started their medal hunt at the third Statehood Day Women’s Polo Tournament in Manipur, India on a sound note by hammering Manipur A 5-2 in a one-sided encounter on Wednesday.
Team captain and handicap two player, Tiva Gross, put Kenya ahead with a field goal in the opening chukka before Manipur levelled it at 1-1 shortly after.
Nairobi Polo Club assistant captain, Rowena Stichbury, notched in the second to give Kenya a 2-1 lead in the second chukka but the hosts once again rallied to equalise before the break.
Kenya took advantage of the breather to put their house in order and gave Manipur no sniff when they switched sides and a field goal gave them the lead in the third chukka through Imogen Voorspuy.
Gross stretched the advantage to 4-2 with a successfully converted penalty before Kaila Millar sealed the rout for the final score.
