Each year the RVO route changes by between 5-50% for each stage. For 2016 Stage 2 changes the most, with a new ascent up the Mau Escarpment to 3000 m elevation. The reward from this high point is 30 km of downhill, with a descent of 1450 m into Race Camp 1 at Camp Carnelley’s, Lake Naivasha.

A significant change for 2016 is shifting the event days by one day, the 5 day event now starts on Tuesday finishing on Saturday while the 3 day event is from Thursday to Saturday. Accommodation & meal packages include Saturday night post-race in Race Camp 2 at Mbweha Camp, Soysambu, this allows everybody to depart at leisure on Sunday morning.

For international travellers, the optional prologue will be on Monday 19 Sep, the perfect ride to acclimatise to the altitude while setting up bikes. The prologue includes a 2 hour tour of Karirana Tea Factory for an in-depth understanding of tea growing and manufacture. International travellers can plan their round trip to arrive in Kenya on Sunday 18 Sep and depart on Sunday 25 Sep after 6 days of incredible mountain biking. All ground logistics and accommodation will be managed by us, we will look after you with an airport to airport service.
