The Timau MTB is a 2 day mountain biking event taking place in the Mount Kenya area on 22nd and 23rd November.
Day 1: 30km, 530m climbing
A scenic, non-technical 30km loop starting at Timau River Lodge and going through the stunning Ol Donyo farm. Pedal through spectacular fields with stunning views of wheat, peas and the yellow flowers of the canola plant growing around you. Make sure to keep your head up for the majestic Mount Kenya in the background. This ride is suitable for people of all levels of mountain biking.
Day 2: 50km, 1200m climbing
A challenging 50km route along the slopes of Mount Kenya. This route has a number of technical sections, long climbs, descents and river crossings through the Mount Kenya Forest. This ride starts at Timau River Lodge and finishes off at the Mount Kenya Safari Club. There will be hot showers at the finish line followed by lunch. There will also be a power hose here to wash your bike.
Both routes will be fully marked with marshalls along the way. If you have a GPS then we can give you the route for Day 2 on Saturday evening.
All participants MUST wear a helmet. Please note, this is NOT a race and there will be no prize money.

The spectator points will be accessible in a 4×4. If it has been raining, then we suggest you go straight to the finish line! Maps to be sent out to the group before the event.
The main camp for the event will be the Timau River Lodge. There are lots of trails around the lodge for mountain biking and walking. It is a great place to take your family. Find geese, ducks and an array of other animals around the camp, and have a go on the old zipline! Also take a walk along the river or down to the waterfall.
We have discounted rates for accommodation at Timau River Lodge. The cottages are basic and all meals are eaten in the communal area. If camping, there are covered areas for you to cook, with a sink to wash up in. There is a lovely fireplace in the lodge, which is lit in the evening. All prices are per person:
