Kenyan athletes are bracing up for the Samsung Diamond League season set to start next month in Doha, Qatar.
Most of them reckon that the Diamond League will be key as it will act as a build-up for the World Athletic Championships set for August in Beijing.
Olympics 5,000m bronze medallist, Thomas Longosiwa has entered the opening leg of the 14-meeting series set for May 15 in Doha. He will also run at the Rome Meeting on June 4 before committing himself to two more races before the global event.
Longosiwa said he will run his 5,000m specialty as he prepares himself for the big show in Beijing. Longosiwa has fond memories of Qatar Stadium as this is where he set his personal best of 3,000m in 2008.
He said his focus in Doha will be to improve his personal best time in the 12-lap race which stands at 12:49.04.
Reigning Continental Cup 3000m SC winner Jairus Birech will open the series at the Shanghai meeting on May 17. Birech , who won the Samsung Diamond League last season, will also compete at the Eugene meeting.
The 2014 Commonwealth Games 3000m SC silver medallist said he is looking beyond the Diamond League and his aim is to win his specialty in Beijing.
