Nanyuki youngster Kunal Patel chalked up his maiden career win in the buggies class as the third round of the USN Sikh Union National Rally Raid ended in dramatic fashion at Isinya yesterday.

Kunal, son of KCB Nanyuki Rally event director Bimal Patel, beat defending champion Tejas Hirani to second position only on his second appearance in the Raid competition.

Kunal, who retired on his debut raid in Ewaso last year after a paltry 3kms, was on cloud nine and had his campaign effectively sewn up when Tejas failed to recover the massive time he lost on Day 1.

Kunal clocked a total of 1:38.09hours to vanquish Tejas by a massive 13.24minutes margin.
Going into the second day, Tejas wasn’t able to make up for his day one woes after getting lost in the opening stage, but the only consolation for him is that he is still retains his lead in the buggy class championship. Read more…..
