Rising KNRC star Karan Patel says he will push in tomorrow’s KCB Kisumu Rally in a bid to settle for a respectable position. Karan is currently ranked second in the ‘S’ class, a category competed for by cars of expired homologation. Leader Alasdair Keith is 50 points ahead of him although Karan only started rally in March this year having missed out in the season opening events in Malindi and Machakos. Keith leads the ‘S’ class category with 360points while Karan and Hussein Malik have 310 and 205 points respectively.
“Even if he I finish ahead of Keith in the final two rallies, he will still be 10 points ahead of me. Nevertheless, I plan to drive to the best of my ability and be grateful with whatever I accomplish this season,” said Karan, who is teaming up with Tauseef Khan in a Subaru GC8. Naivasha-based Keith will be navigated by Tariq Malik in a Subaru GC8.
Karan is currently seen as the most improved drivers this year, having finished 9th overall in last month’s KCB Safari Rally.
“I attribute my success in rallying since March to perfect communication in the car between me and Tuaseef. The other reason I have come this far is because of the meticulous preparation of the car prior to rallies. This has helped me finish all the rallies so far except for my debut rally in Migaa where we got stuck in red soil,” said Karan.
