Ivan Guya eclipsed US based rider Apollo Mbuki in a pulsating tussle of the MX1 class as the fifth round of the Kenya National Motocross Championship came to a dramatic end at Jamhuri Park racetrack over the weekend.
Apollo who is seeking to qualify for the national races at Chicago’s Club 57 gave a good account of himself more so in the second heat which he managed to eclipse Guya but the latter carried the day after racking up the first and third races.
In a bid to add some more zest to the proceedings, organisers East African Motor Sports Club combined MX1 and MX2 treating spectators to some exhilarating displays of motorcycle artistry.
Guya who is pursuing higher education in Britain was all smiles after victory: “I had an amazing time at my first race back in Kenya. I’m glad to come out with the win. I’m very thankful to everyone who supported me. Onto the Africa championship in two weeks I can’t wait to attack,” said Guya.
Apollo also exuded confidence ahead of the continental extravaganza but promised to work on his fitness.
“The race between me and Ivan was close. I managed to defeat him in the second race but got exhausted towards the later stages of the race.”
