World mountain junior champion Stella Chesang will open Uganda’s medal hunt as the Africa junior athletics championships start at Addis Ababa stadium.

Chesang, who won the world event in Italy and also the national junior cross country championships in Jinja will be competing in the women 3000m event.

Chesang finished fourth at both the 2013 Poland World Youth and 2014 Eugene World junior championships.She believes that she can change her fortunes starting with the Africa Junior event, as she warms up for the Guiyang World Cross Country championships later this month.

She will be the only one competing in the final with junior female sprinters Moureen Banura and Suzan Aneno, competing in the first round of their respective event.

Uganda is also represented by World junior champion Joshua Cheptegei and Geoffrey Balimumiti, who will be competing later.​
