Altona swim club’s Latif Kajumbi, Aurelie Duchateau and Vianney Lusimbo, bagged a total of 18 gold medals for their club at the recent National Masters Swimming Championships held at Gems Cambridge International School in Butabika, Luzira.
Kajumbi, started the medal haul winning the Men’s Masters race in 100 meter freestyle, 50 meters 24 meters freestyle, 25, 50 and 100 meters butterfly as the newly formed club made it’s stake at the championships to select a side that will represent Uganda at the 16th FINA World Masters Championships in Kazan, Russia in August.
Uganda will be making it’s second appearance at the FINA World Masters Championships having made their debut last year in Canada.
The Masters championships attracted senior swimmers from various clubs and even Uganda Swimming Federation executive members as well. Aurelie Duchateau, won gold medals in the women’s masters 25, 50 meter breaststroke then followed it up with golds in 25, 50 butterfly, 25 and 50 backstroke summing up with 25 and 50 freestyle.
Vianney Lusimbo, bagged gold in the Men’s Masters 25 and 50 meters backstroke and bronze medals in 25, 50, freestyle together with 25 and 50 meters breastroke.
